Tuscarawas County, mid-19th century, mixed woods. Balloon-back with original floral decoration. 31.5" high. This type of chair has long been associated with Zoar. They were likely made locally and sold to the Zoar community. In Snyder, Goudy, and Goudy’s Zoar Furniture, they illustrated several examples, including some marked for Uhrichsville maker J. Hicks.
