Description
With lacework ends. Embroidered on one end is "GoodS spun and woven by Sarah Ryburn Davis 1812" and on the other "Towel made by her grand daughter Sara I. Stover 1885." 33" by 18". Sarah Ryburn (1788-1873) was born in Washington County, Virginia. She married William Davis in 1813. The family moved west, settling in Carroll County, Illinois. Sarah’s oldest child, Mary Jane Beaty Davis had a daughter, Sarah (1837-1929). Sarah, granddaughter of Sarah, married Emanuel Stover in 1856. In 1812, Grandmother Sarah was in Virginia, and in 1885, granddaughter Sarah was in Illinois. Provenance: the collection of the late Jo Louise Brown, Zoar, Ohio.
